Scopely is looking for a Principal/Lead VFX Artist to join us remotely from the US!

Scopely is building an exciting AAA multiplayer action game for consoles, PC, and mobile, using Unreal 5. We believe this stylized fantasy project has the potential to be massive in scale and industry-defining!

What You Will Do

As a Principal/Lead VFX Artist, you will help define the stylized artistic vision and VFX pipeline for an wondrous new fantasy IP. Action combat will be a focus, but skilled generalists with an eye for subtlety and sophistication are also encouraged to apply.  You will be working with an experienced AAA team to lay the foundations for VFX in this new world, and inspire artistic, creative, and technical innovation.


  • Work with the Art Director to define the game’s VFX style and pipeline
  • Create stylized game ready VFX inside Unreal 5
  • Develop style guides to inspire and ensure consistency
  • Embrace feedback and iteration, focusing on the player experience
  • Find and tackle technical issues to ensure smooth gameplay
  • Work with cross-discipline teams to accomplish art, gameplay, and technical goals 
  • Help define and maintain a consistently high quality bar for the game and franchise
  • Guide and mentor other team members and partners
What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of related experience, ideally shipping multiple high quality games
  • Portfolio showing stylized or non photorealistic game VFX
  • Unreal (or equivalent) game engine VFX expertise
  • Experience creating combat VFX for action games
  • A critical eye and understanding of timing, lighting, and color
  • Experience creating stylized or non photoreal VFX
  • Experience creating fantasy or fantasy adjacent VFX 
  • Ability to work well within a cross-discipline, iterative, team environment
  • Creative and technical ability to hit game performance targets
  • Ability to lead, either by example as a principal craft leader, or as a manager
Bonus Points

  • Love of fantasy universes in any form of media
  • Digital painting skills are a plus
  • Experience with VFX simulation software to add realism to your stylized game VFX
  • Deep technical art knowledge in Unreal engine is a plus
  • Passion for games, stories, and creating rich player experiences
  • Experience with multiplayer action games a plus
 

For candidates in CA, CO, NJ, NY and WA, the annual salary range is $144,200 - 215,000, plus equity, bonus and benefits including healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, pet insurance, paid holidays, paid Scopely free days, and unlimited paid time-off. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
