Sr. VFX Artist - Games Studio

The Senior VFX Artist will independently produce and deliver a wide range of high-quality visual effects through any stage of the production process in respect of the project’s technical and artistic constraints. You will guide and mentor junior artists while being a known resource for VFX art and best practices.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, design, and create stunning in-game visual effects (including modeling, texturing, animating, lighting, shaders, etc.) using available tools in Unity
- Work collaboratively with game designers and engineers to understand gameplay requirements and to effectively communicate gameplay mechanics to the player within the constraints of the engine
- Work with the art team to define a consistent style for VFX and to ensure the quality of the assets for all aspects of the project
- Ensure that VFX assets are built efficiently and within game constraints and given timelines
- Provide creative and innovative solutions to technical art problems and/or restrictions
- Develop tools & refine pipelines for the art production process, including batching and automation
- Assist in scoping work for on time milestone deliveries
- Guide and mentor other team members
- Generate turnarounds, and material callouts to aid in asset creation
- Exemplify reliability, accountability, and professionalism in all work-related interactions
- Help guide or lead cross-disciplinary dialogs to drive features from initial concept to completion
- Lead by example, creating a strong sense of purpose and community, and promoting a culture of excellence
- Manage shared library of assets and documentation for VFX
- Partner with Art Director to drive best practices for VFX
Skills and Abilities
- Strong artistic skills and understanding of traditional art and animation principles
- Ability to create fully optimized and hyper realistic in-game VFX for a wide range of system requirements
- Positive attitude with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback
- Excellent organization, communication, and attention to detail
- Able to manage multiple, competing tasks and be self-directed to meet deadlines in a quickly evolving environment
- Ability to write scripts and actions to create VFX
- Strong desire to iterate and improve on inefficient processes
Education and Experience
- 3 years’ experience creating real-time special VFX for video games
- Experience creating VFX in Unity
- Experience working with Photoshop, 3D applications (Maya or 3D Studio Max) and particle editors, as well as AfterEffects or similar programs for pre-visualizing VFX
- Advanced knowledge of most game development tools and ability to master proprietary tools and Date Created: 5/28/21 development processes
- Experience with traditional 2D animated VFX
- Experience or knowledge of repository tools (Git, SVN…)
- Experience with JIRA or other project management software
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Our core hours are 10am to 6:00pm cst, which means you should be available for meetings etc. during this time.
