We're looking for a Level Designer to craft levels for the tactical combat gameplay of our ambitious new project using our procedural level building tools and pipeline.

At League of Geeks, we dedicate ourselves to crafting engaging game experiences with a unique charm and innovative gameplay. We're looking for a Level Designer to craft levels for the tactical combat gameplay of our ambitious new project using our procedural level building tools and pipeline.
As a collaborative and agile team, we love generalists possessing deep specialisations, so while level design will be your focus, you'll have ample opportunities to contribute to our game system designs and our procedural level generation logic, and come up with weird and wonderful game content. You'll use your critical thinking, collaboration skills, aesthetic eye, and sense of space and architectural principles to creatively put our design pillars in action and fine-tune the gameplay experience to delight our players.
We are committed to building one of the best working environments in the world, with a genuine focus on well being, skill development, and the correct ratio of pot plants to humans.
If you’re keen to work with one of the world’s leading independent studios and help us create our new and exciting, original IP, we'd love to hear from you!
Women and other underrepresented developers, please apply! We pride ourselves on our inclusive work environment and output, so we’d love to work with you.
Requirements:
  • Experience designing and creating levels as part of a professional game design team.
  • Able to greybox interesting 3D architecture and environments that support the desired player experience.
  • Resourcefulness in populating a level with enemies, loot, quests, etc. to leverage game mechanics in varied, unexpected, balanced and delightful play scenarios.

Propensity for critical thinking, and giving and receiving feedback to find the right ideas for the project and audience.
  • Excellent communication, creative collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Detail sensitivity, a proven aesthetic eye and strong design sensibilities.
  • A commitment to working in a professional, inclusive and supportive environment.
Responsibilities:
  • With guidance from senior designers and the Leadership team, develop level designs and significant related content.
  • Work with the tools and game engine to design and implement levels, and tweak and tune the player experience.
  • Develop and maintain design documents that clearly communicate concepts to our multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate clearly in design discussions and reviews to reach objective rather than subjective outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other departments, ensuring positive communication and creative problem-solving between disciplines.
  • Participate in iterations on features, systems and procedural level generation tools so they empower you to build great levels.
  • Analyse game data and user feedback to extract insights and improvements for our game.
  • Conduct design research into industry best practices and design solutions.
Benefits:
  • Weekly bring-your-dog-to-work day. Yeah, dogs!
  • Flexible work arrangement opportunities and family-friendly considerations.
  • Professional development track, mentorship and support.
  • Professional and personal travel insurance.
  • Monthly self-directed professional development and game jam days.
  • Friday afternoon team social events.
  • Annual Summer family picnic, Winter Feast and MIGW party.
  • Located in Melbourne, Australia. World’s most liveable city seven years in a row.
How to Apply:
Send a cover letter, an up-to-date CV and folio with examples of your work to level.designer.job@leagueofgeeks.com
In your cover letter, please write 200 words about a lesson from a current-gen game's approach to procedural level generation/construction that you would bring to any studio attempting to generate/construct levels procedurally.
