At Kybolt, our vision is "a world where gamers recognise leadership as a learnable skill"
We are a values-driven company driving positive impact in competitive multiplayer games.

We are seeking a Tech Director who shares our enthusiasm for developing future leaders. This person will join our leadership team, and play a pivotal role in the growth of our company.

Our flagship project is Causeway — a lane-pushing game which embeds 'leadership' principles to solve the toxicity problem in competitive multiplayer. We already have a playable prototype and are looking to spend 12–14 months iterating to achieve product-market fit.

As an early-stage startup — this is not a turn-key role but an opportunity. If we start a conversation and find exceptional mutual fit, your name would join ours on a deck and we would fundraise with the offer of a full-time paid role contingent on funding. For this reason there may be a delay of 3+ months before a start date.

We recognise this will not fit everyone's circumstances; though it comes with high autonomy and unbounded room for growth.

What you'll contribute to:
  • Solid Gameplay: Continued development on our modding-friendly C++ game engine, based on open-source tech.
  • Tools and Integrations: Speeding up iteration time, equipping our team, build vs buy decisions, and enabling community growth and delight.
  • Scaleable Backend: All the usual for live-service games, most likely implementing third party services.
  • Craft Excellence: Setting a high standard across engineering and our company culture generally.
  • Hiring: You will be expected to build and lead a technical team as the company grows.
Essential:
  • Experience: 10+ years making cool things. Proven competency in C++.
  • Strengths: You have experience, maturity, and success in 2 or more technical disciplines where you can be trusted to take ownership and excel.
  • Culture Champion: A legacy of bringing out the best in others, a desire for organisational excellence, and a deep affinity with servant leadership.
  • Mindset: You understand this is a startup, that we will have to learn constantly, take initiative constantly, work hard, and have flexibility to respond to business needs.
  • Fluent English: We’ll talk extensively about leadership topics.
Desirable:
  • Macro View: You have a top level view of how games get made, knowing every step from initial concept through sunset and how it all fits together.
  • Former Founder, or relevant startup experience is welcome.
  • Shipped Titles: Particularly live service, competitive multiplayer, or real-time strategy will be relevant.
