Job Description: Character Concept Artist for Live2D Virtual Idols / Genshin Impact inspired anime-style
Meta Elf Studio Ltd. is looking for a creative and passionate Character Concept Artist to join our team for our next major Live2D virtual idol project.
Our fully remote art studio focuses on developing cel-shaded anime style Live2D virtual idols and Live2D assets. We provide ongoing artistic support for our virtual idols by dedicatedly expanding research on multiple entertainment mediums, such as illustrations & comics, music, animation, and merchandise, and we are dedicated to exploring tech innovations within the field of virtual avatars creation, virtual streaming and animation.
With the studio’s core design strategy of iteration and innovation in mind, the ideal candidate must show the ability to create cel-shaded anime-style design iterations for team production in early production stage, possess a strong understanding of anatomy, perspective, and color theory, have the capability to maintain a consistent anime art style throughout the project in design concepts, and utilize their expertise as a top-notch, skilled artist to deliver a high-quality final illustration.
As a Character Concept Artist, you will collaborate closely with our passionate studio team to expand and actualize a solid creative direction for Live2D art production. You will create memorable original concepts for Live2D virtual idols/related assets, craft and prepare Live2D model art, collaborate closely with Live2D riggers as a team, and produce splash art & promotional art for marketing.
Skills & Requirements
While Meta Elf Studio is entirely remote, for a full-time, permanent role, the ideal candidate needs to be located and legally eligible to work in Canada.
Please note that applicants using AI generated images as their original portfolio pieces will not be tolerated. The applicant shall be permanently removed from all current and future job selection pools in Meta Elf Studio.
Must Haves
- A strong and passionate commitment to continuous professional growth in the field of art and concept design.
- Solid production experience in anime-style Live2D virtual idol model art creation, from initial concept designs to model art and layer separation for Live2D animation.
- Previous knowledge with Live2D Cubism and virtual streaming in general.
- Must be located and legally eligible to work in Canada, preferably Ontario resident.
- Motivation for acquiring artistic knowledge in Live2D animation and production.
- Excellent understanding of art theory, color theory, costume designs and human anatomy for anime stylized characters.
- Expertise in illustration software such as Adobe Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint or any other equivalents to create 2D art.
- Capability to maintain cel-shaded anime style direction for the team based on feedback.
- Capability to deliver work on time according to deadlines and schedules.
- Ability to work from rough thumbnails to refined quality model sheet concepts and illustrations.
- Ability to self-direct and troubleshoot artistic issues, combined with a dedicated work ethic to exchange feedback closely with the team.
- Availability during work hours (Weekdays, 10AM to 4PM EST).
Preferred Extras
- Experience working in Trello, Jira or similar production collaboration tools.
- Understanding of file organization and version control.
- Bachelor’s degree or similar education background in Fine Arts or Illustration.
