The Game:
Lunacy is an indie game studio whose team is united by a shared passion for personal storytelling. Our current project is a narrative-driven 3rd-person 3D puzzle adventure game set in the Islamic Golden Age, which explores themes of grief and loss.
The Role:
We are looking for a Lighting Artist with a cinematic eye, realtime performance aptitude, and strong creative/technical background in Unreal. This Artist will be able to conceptualize, present, and execute ideas within a schedule, while actively participating in technical and artistic problem solving, and will be able to partner with multiple disciplines to meet the project’s needs.
Responsibilities:
- Set up, implement, and polish cinematic lighting for both interior and exterior game environments
- Work with the Art Director and Art Team to follow concepts and general visual direction of levels, with the ability to self-direct as needed
- Collaborate with level designers on highlighting aspects that are important for gameplay
- Identify improvements and efficiencies within our lighting pipeline to speed production and reduce costs at run time
- Participate in giving & receiving critiques to ensure scenes are as impactful as they can be for narrative storytelling
- Author post-processing effects such as color grading, exposure, tone mapping, bloom, etc.
- Deliver assets within specific time constraints for marketing materials, game demos, and various stages of production
Bonus:
- Generalist experience with environment art in UE5 is a plus

Details:
- Contract role, 2 - 4 months
- Remote position with a distributed team
- Will work most closely with team members in UTC-7, UTC-5, and UTC+1.
- Note that we are an indie team and this is our debut game. Due to budget considerations, we are most likely able to hire a mid-level artist, but please apply if you believe you are a fit for the position and share your rate expectations for a freelance role.
