Intro
We are an indie game studio whose team is united by a shared passion for personal storytelling. Our current project is a narrative-driven 3D puzzle adventure game set in the Islamic Golden Age, which explores themes of grief and loss. We are seeking a Level Designer to join us in our journey.

A Note on the Kind of Person We're Looking For
At our studio, we prioritize an inclusive and empathetic approach to game development. We are a diverse group of people from different backgrounds, and we strive to create a positive and enjoyable working environment for all team members. Additionally, it is crucial for us that we handle this project’s emotional and cultural themes sensitively. As our Level Designer, we need someone who is excited about and embraces this philosophy.

The Role
You must be a team player with excellent communication, technical know-how, and a passion for our subjects. You will work closely with our Lead Game Designer to create playable environments that support the gameplay vision, and collaborate with the narrative and art teams to integrate their work seamlessly.

Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize and implement game levels that align with the project's creative vision, gameplay mechanics, and technical constraints.
  • Design levels with an eye for structural cohesion, to create spaces that feel organic and immersive while presenting unique gameplay opportunities.
  • Implement level layouts and behaviors in Unreal Engine 5, collaborating with other team members to facilitate a smooth workflow.
  • Foster communication between departments by leveraging an understanding of design, art and narrative goals, along with an architectural sensibility.
  • Iterate comfortably, going from early drafts/blocking to finalized levels, incorporating at each step feedback from team members, playtesting sessions, and stakeholders.
  • Fine-tune levels to elevate the player’s experience: teaching of gameplay concepts, engaging pace, consistent difficulty curve, artful vistas, etc.
  • Create clear and concise documentation, including level design documents, diagrams, and asset lists, to communicate design concepts and implementation details to the team.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a level designer in the game industry, with experience working on shipped titles or published projects.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate ideas, give and receive feedback, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5, other relevant software tools used in game development, and version control systems (e.g., Perforce).
  • Appreciation of narrative-heavy puzzle adventure games, and the ability to think critically about associated design principles.
  • Deep understanding and problem-solving skills related to game design principles and player psychology.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
Bonus
  • Demonstrated expertise in Arabic architecture and history.
  • Familiarity with Notion, our project management and documentation tool.
  • Enthusiasm about participating in the creative process beyond level design.
Details
  • Beginning ASAP.
  • Fully remote collaboration with a distributed team based between the North-American West and East Coasts, Europe, and the Middle East.
