We’re hiring and looking to connect with: Game Designer (Level Design Focus)
Edge of the World Studios is looking to connect with a Game Designer with a strong focus on level design, puzzle structure, and player flow to collaborate on an upcoming narrative-driven game project. This role is centered on designing levels and puzzles that support emotional pacing, readability, and exploration, working closely with art and engineering to ensure ideas translate cleanly into playable spaces. You’ll be contributing directly to the design foundation of a 2.5D puzzle-platforming adventure currently in development.
We’re particularly interested in designers who enjoy thinking spatially, breaking down mechanics clearly, and iterating through prototypes to test ideas early.
The Project
Our current project, Halima, is a 2.5D narrative puzzle-platformer inspired by folklore, mythology, and surreal dreamscapes. Visually, it draws from handcrafted and claymation-inspired aesthetics, with a strong emphasis on mood, atmosphere, and environmental storytelling.
The near-term focus is on building a vertical slice, and this role will play a key part in shaping the structure, pacing, and puzzle logic of those levels.
What you’ll be working on
We’re looking to connect with designers who can:
- Design level layouts and spatial flow for puzzle-platforming gameplay.
- Develop and document puzzle mechanics, including logic breakdowns, dependencies, and player affordances.
- Think about emotional pacing, encounter sequencing, and how gameplay supports narrative tone.
- Produce clear design documentation (diagrams, flow charts, written breakdowns) that other disciplines can work from.
- Collaborate with programmers to validate puzzle feasibility and iterate quickly.
- Work alongside artists to ensure gameplay readability and environmental clarity.
- Support early greyboxing and prototyping (hands-on in Unity is a plus, but not mandatory).
This is a design-forward role with a strong emphasis on clarity, structure, and collaboration rather than purely conceptual ideation.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Have experience designing levels or puzzles for games in Unity (either released titles, prototypes, or strong portfolio work).
- Are comfortable breaking down mechanics into implementable systems.
- Care about player experience, readability, and flow.
- Enjoy working in small teams where design decisions have a visible impact.
- Can communicate ideas clearly across disciplines.
Nice to have (but not required):
- Prior work on puzzle, adventure, or platforming games.
- Familiarity with narrative-driven or atmospheric game design.
- Experience working on vertical slices or early-stage prototypes in a small indie team.
Practical details
- Remote role with a distributed team (HQ in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia).
- Collaboration primarily aligned with GMT+3.
- We're a small indie team
- We’re open to Mid-level or Senior designers; if you feel like a strong fit, we’d still love to connect.
- Long-term contract-based engagement, with scope and duration discussed openly upfront.
If this sounds interesting, or if you know someone who might be a good fit, we’d love to connect and share more about the project and the team.
