Land & Sea is an independent games studio from developers of the critically acclaimed Alto’s Adventure and Alto’s Odyssey. We’re looking for a highly skilled and experienced Unity programmer to play a key part in the development of our all-new original IP, as well as supporting our existing Alto titles.

We are a small team crafting meaningful, highly polished experiences. We aim to work  sustainably, with flexible working hours, zero crunch, and providing a healthy and supportive environment for our team.

This role offers a great deal of autonomy and would suit an experienced programmer who enjoys working in a collaborative, cross-discipline environment. The ideal candidate will work confidently across multiple aspects of our upcoming project, including: systems architecture, tools development, gameplay programming, optimisation and platform integration.

This role is remote, however due to time zone overlap requirements, candidates from the UK and Europe are preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform core game, system and platform programming tasks, operating as one of the key players in the development and support of our original titles.
  • Use your experience to highlight key areas for improvement, as well as guide the continued development of our games and related pipelines.
  • Develop tools to help improve the efficiency of our team.
  • Weigh in on non-technical design and creative exploration. As a small team we like to ensure every team member has a stake in the creative process.

Requirements
  • Experience in commercial game programming roles.
  • Extensive experience working in the Unity game engine.
  • Fluent in C#.
  • Be a proponent for good software design and architecture.
  • Personal initiative: ability to make key decisions without guidance when necessary.
  • A solid understanding of modern optimisation techniques for mobile and console titles.
  • Excellent communication, creative collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Experience authoring development and testing tools in Unity.
  • An interest and willingness to engage in the game design process.

Bonus Points
  • Team or product lead experience (in any role).
  • Experience with automated build/ testing and CI systems, such as Jenkins.
  • Experience in C++ or working with other game engines.
  • A passion for managing/supporting/mentoring your fellow engineers.
  • Experience with working with dynamic audio systems and middleware (such as Wwise and Fmod).

Benefits
  • Flexibility in working hours.
  • Employee and contractor wellness payout of £150 per quarter - to be spent on your personal health.
  • Employee training budget of £1000 per year - to be spent toward your professional development, including industry events, conferences, classes and more.
  • Two exploration days per month to be used for upskilling or exploring new project concepts/experiments.
