What you’ll do
You will be joining Double Dusk as our very first engineering hire.
You will be working as a generalist side by side with our CTO, shaping the foundations of our game’s architecture.
You will develop and evolve the many systems we need to build and iterate on in order to deliver an unforgettable experience to our players.
You will quickly learn on the job whenever something is outside of your immediate expertise.
You will also work closely with our game designers and artists to make their vision come to life.

Requirements
  • You have extensive experience with shipping games using the Unreal Engine, and you can prove it.
  • You love being a generalist and you’re able to learn any part of game development that might be necessary to keep the studio moving forward, from game programming, to networking, build, infrastructure etc.
  • You have 3+ years of experience working as a senior or lead programmer in games.
  • You’re comfortable rapid prototyping, making the right tradeoffs between the now and the long term.
  • You are scrappy, resourceful, results-oriented and have worked on small teams with tight deadlines shipping commercial products.
  • You’re an excellent communicator who proactively keeps the team in sync about your progress.
  • You take ownership of you work, don’t require supervision, and move with a sense of urgency.
  • You have played a cooperative game or two in the last few months.

Where
This is a remote position, with preference for some overlap with US and Canada work hours.

Salary
We have a transparent salary policy: at all times you know exactly what everybody else at the company is being paid.
We strive to pay at the 75th percentile of the markets we hire in.
Everybody in the same role at the same level at the same location gets paid the same. Equal work, equal pay.
Equity packages are adjusted based on how early you joined the company to compensate for volatility.
There’s no negotiation or special backroom deals to get ahead, compensation is standardized and made public to maximize fairness.
We make yearly adjustments to everybody’s compensation to keep up with the market and inflation.
  • USD 120,000 - 180,000 USD depending on location
  • 0.75-1.0% of company equity as options vesting over 4 years

Interview process
  1. Application - you are here!
  2. Culture interview - Our goal is to explore your motivations to join our team, learn why you’d be a great fit, and answer questions about us (30min)
  3. Discipline-specific interview - You'll meet the hiring team who will evaluate skills needed to be successful in your role (60min)
  4. Take-home project - we assign you a test project that should take a few hours to finish. The work is similar to what you’d be doing day-to-day at the company. We then chat with you about your deliverable (2-4h)
  5. Work trial - we really like you, and we want to make sure this is a fit for you and the team. Work with us remotely on our product. We will compensate you appropriately for your time, or donate the same amount to charity if you’re unable to receive compensation. The work trial lasts anywhere between 5 days and 6 weeks, either full-time or part time. We’re happy to figure out an arrangement that works best for your schedule.
