We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive Lead Game Designer to join our busy studios and support driving our games forward as we experience exponential growth. You’ll be joining the team on an ambitious and original open world survival game with a horror thematic. We’re putting a unique twist on the formula, both in mechanics and the environmental challenges we set for the player. Visual quality is paramount, so we’re building in Unreal Engine 5.

Key Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in the creation and development of the game design by supporting the Creative Director
- Designing fun and exciting mechanics, balancing difficulty, and managing the user experience and interaction that reflects the game's vision
- Creation and implementation of innovative game systems
- Ensure your team designs features that are aligned with the game’s creative vision
- Help plan the work, set priorities, detail, and supervise the work of the game design team
- Has a hands on approach and will dedicate a portion of their time to help the team implement any work needed
- Establish standards for formal design documentation and tools for the project, providing clear and structured project documents
- Set quality-bar through hands-on ownership of designs from conception to the final stages of polish
- Ensure that Gameplay intentions are understood and that team members are working on the right elements
- Anticipating, identifying, articulating problem areas and developing preventative solutions
- Guide designers to ensure their work adheres to the project quality standards
- Work with the production team to ensure timely delivery of work and team’s adherence to the agreed schedule
- Manage a team of designers, identifying growth areas and participate in their ongoing training and career development
Key Requirements:
- Have shipped a minimum of 1 title (for PC and Consoles) as a Lead Game Designer or equivalent
- 8+ years of Game Design experience with an understanding of Design on all levels from Lead to Junior
- Experience supervising a game design team and acting as their Line Manager
- Excellent knowledge of Survival game Gameplay mechanics and game features
- Experience designing first/third person traversal systems
- Experience with GaaS, able to break down core loops and meta loops and explain different stages of player progression
- Familiarity with Unreal 5 and experience with the creation of Blueprints or demonstrable ability to quickly learn new engines and game technologies
- A great knowledge of games and an excellent understanding of what makes them work
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines
- Working in a fast-paced Agile environment where data can influence and adapt what we create
