Our small indie team is looking to add a technical game designer to our ranks as we rapidly approach release in Q4 this year.
Our game sees the player flying through a series of handcrafted levels, where they will face hazardous space environments, dangerous enemies, and maybe some secrets to find. We want someone to help build and iterate on these levels, using existing elements, enemies, and set pieces.
Who are we looking for?
Someone who is passionate about creating engaging levels and player experiences, and that understands iterative design principles when introducing game mechanics to players, expanding on those mechanics in new and complex ways as a player progresses through the game. The ideal candidate will have experience working in small teams, is highly motivated and independent in their work. We are looking for someone who can contribute their own thoughts and design processes in order to make our game shine!
Key Responsibilities
- The job will entail assembling and iterating on levels based on our current documentation and goals
- You will be using a variety of our existing assets and tools to craft interesting scenarios and level sequences
- You will be required to script sequences and events throughout the levels
- Communication with other departments to iterate on design and implementation
- Tweaking and balancing of gameplay systems through iterative play testing, to drive intended player experiences and the core gameplay loop
- Improving the player experience through prototyping and testing new level design ideas
Requirements
- Strong UE4 experience
- Strong portfolio, demonstrating your skillset as a designer, showcasing iterative design of gameplay mechanics throughout play
- Portfolio that shows expertise in crafting engaging gameplay scenarios, from start to finish
- Good communication skills
Nice to have
- Blueprints, coding experience
- Shipped AA and/or AAA game titles or equivalent work
- Experience in VR (and access to a headset)
- Passion for space and space games
