Full-time remote position | Working from home | UK residents only
As a Game Designer, you will define both the moment-to-moment gameplay and the overall player progression for an unannounced original game with EA Originals. Please note this is not a narrative role.
You will work independently, as part of a team of designers, and as a collaborator across disciplines to deliver polished, engaging and compelling gameplay features.
What the role entails:
- Taking end-to-end ownership of key features, aiming for quality and innovation while adhering to the game vision
- Advocating for the player experience to the rest of the team
- Creating and maintaining game design documentation (concept briefs, detailed feature specifications, etc.)
- Helping to establish best practices and guidelines for the whole team
- Conceptualising and prototyping innovative game systems
- Collaborating and coordinating with animation, art, audio, programming, UI and VFX to bring features to final quality
- Finding and implementing innovative solutions for technical and creative design issues
- Tweaking and balancing gameplay based on self critique, leadership direction, review feedback and playtest results
What we'd like to see from you:
- 2+ years working within the games industry in a design capacity
- Commercially shipped at least one title as a game designer
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt to both technical and non-technical audiences in a succinct manner
- Able to multitask and prioritise with limited supervision
- Able to break down high-level design goals into smaller individual components
- Proven experience with responsive character-driven gameplay systems such as locomotion, combat, camera, AI and skill progression
- An avid player of games with excellent understanding of the game market and design trends
- Good knowledge of Unreal Engine and Blueprint Scripting
Desirable but not essential:
- Experience playing Action, Action/Adventure, Action RPG and/or Fighting games
- Knowledge of key combat design concepts
- Knowledge of key animation concepts
- Knowledge of camera functionality and dynamics
- Knowledge of State Machines in Unreal Engine
- Knowledge of Behaviour Trees in Unreal Engine
- Game Design or Computer Science degree (or similar related degree)
Reporting:
The Game Designer role reports to and is managed by the Lead Designer.
