Perfect Crime Games is an independent video game studio founded by industry veteran programmer James Persaud and award-winning narrative designer Baudelaire Welch. We aim to create historical fantasy narrative-focused games with retro aesthetics inspired by the 8-bit era. Our project Parliament of Hell has received funding from the UK Games Grant government funding initiative.
Work with us on Parliament of Hell
Parliament of Hell is an isometric point and click adventure game set in the 18th century houses of Parliament. It stars Gothic horror writer Matthew Lewis, and treats historical and literary figures with a British satirical lens. The style is a modern twist on the ZX Spectrum. Applicants with evidence of producing work inspired by the ZX spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC or dare I even say the BBC Micro are preferred.

Game Music Composer
We are looking for someone with experience in music composition and production for video games or who has experience in a relevant related industry who can produce tracks that fit the theme and tone of our game and most importantly draw inspiration from the sounds of 8-bit home microcomputers and consoles, including the C64’s SID chip and the ubiquitous AY chip and its spin-offs. The successful candidate should have the capacity to produce a finished product, likely in their own studio.
Parliament of Hell is a point & click adventure game and what we need are a number of short 1-2 minute loops that serve as background/environmental music to represent locations and characters in the game and incidental music to accompany scripted story events. The soundtrack should be chip synth inspired but not necessarily chiptune. The tracks produced will be dynamically mixed with sound effects and voice acting.
Responsibilities:
- Composition of background, environmental, and incidental tracks and loops in accordance with our production schedule
- Developing a sound for the game based on both its gothic revival period setting and its 8-bit micro aesthetic
- Arrangement, tracking, mixing and mastering of said tracks
Desirable experience:
- Experience making music for games
- Experience in sound design/direction for games
- Experience with SID or AY synthesizer chips or their emulation
- Experience working with source control such as Perforce or Git
- Experience working with Wwise or other dynamic/adaptive mixing and scoring technology
- Familiarity with game music from both the early 80s and the golden age of adventure gaming
Our Influences:
- The work of game composers during the 80s and 90s including Barry Leitch, Michiru Yamane, Michael Z. Land, Martin Galway, Rob Hubbard, David Whittaker, Hiroshi Kawaguchi, Chris Hülsbeck, Jogeir Liljedahl…
- The work of contemporary chiptune and game composers including Chipzel, Slagsmålsklubben, Nullsleep, Trash80, Unicorn Kid, she, 047, Ben Prunty, Magnus Pålsson, Danny Baranowsky…
- 18th century and earlier composers including Henry Purcell, Bach, Mozart, Handel, and the hymns of Charles Wesley
The brief might be something like: What if Symphony of the Night but on a ZX Spectrum and arranged by Michael Z. Land.
We are looking for candidates available for:
- A flexible number of part-time hours based around regular commissions
- Domiciled in the UK
- Remote work
Please see the demo of the game for reference as to the early direction of the game’s style.
