SENIOR DESIGNER JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Senior Designer
Location: Remote Working (UK & EU). Ideally, the candidate would be available to visit and work from the Liverpool Studio on occasion.
Report to: Senior Producer
Hours: Full Time - 37 hours per week
 
Overview of Role

Milky Tea is an award-winning video game development studio based in Liverpool. Our exceptionally talented team of 25 people work across the UK and the EU, developing memorable gaming experiences using the latest technology for some of world’s biggest brands, platforms, and publishers.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly talented, passionate, and hands on Senior Designer. In this role, you will help to deliver the design visions for our games, including inspiring and helping to manage a team of designers to implement that vision.

You will work closely with programmers, artists, and animators in defining the core gameplay systems of our titles, such as player combat and difficulty balancing, player progression, UI, interaction, inventory management, bug fixing and player movement/controls. In addition, you will identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to increase productivity and creative freedom.

Main Role and Responsibilities:
  • Help to manage the team of designers to deliver the game design vision.
  • Design original, fun, and exciting mechanics that support the game’s narratives and themes
  • Maintain very high standards to ensure all game features and content embrace the game vision; giving feedback on other’s work across multiple projects.
  • Identify areas of improvement within existing gameplay features and provide alternative solutions where possible.
  • Create clear and concise game design documentation with great knowledge and understanding of core loops and what makes games fun.
  • Create high quality game pitch documentation that can be presented externally to publishers, investors, and other stakeholders. 
  • Act as a mentor for new or junior designers, as well as for all the members on the development team.
  • Help create fun playable prototype games, and develop them with the support of other team members. 
What We Are Looking For:

Experience:
  • Strong Unity knowledge a must and scripting knowledge an advantage.
  • Released at least two titles in a Design role.
  •  3-5+ Years in the industry.
  • Role would be perfect for a Mid-level Designer looking to progress in their career. 
  • Experience with console certification (TRC’s, XR’s and Lotchecks) is a distinct advantage.
  • A background in combat and balancing gameplay elements is highly advantageous. 
  • Strong communication skills.
Personal:
  • Have a passion for all forms of game design regardless of genre.
  • Have exceptional attention to detail.
  • Have excellent understanding of game design philosophies, game asset production, and creative production processes.
  • Be able to think critically, and apply analytical skills to find simple, robust, and efficient solutions to complex issues.
  • Be able to handle shifting schedules, priorities, and multiple projects.
  • Be willing to learn, take on new responsibilities, and evolve your skill set.
  • Be a team player with excellent communication skills who is always professional.
 
What We Offer: 
  • You will receive 28 days holiday per year, inclusive of bank holidays, and an additional 1 days paid holiday “Birthday Bunk Day” per year. Holiday entitlement increases with years of service, up to a maximum of 5 days extra. 
  • You will be offered a competitive company pension scheme.
  • You will be entitled to the company performance bonus scheme. We pay a company performance bonus depending upon the financial performance of the business. (This is once a year after completing 12 months employment).
  • Company parking permit will be available if required. 
  • We have a flexi time working policy, core working hours are between 10am to 4pm.
  • We will supply you with a company laptop and/or desktop (PC or Mac hardware/software optional). 
  • We hold regular team social events throughout the year (Virtual and non-virtual).
