LEAD DATA ENGINEER/ARCHITECT
Full time remote within a distributed team

In the world, there are approximately:
9 million animal species
3 trillion trees
1, 000,000 mobile games
7.7 billion humans
Carbon Counts Tech is on the hunt for exceptional humans—in particular, a Lead Data Engineer/Architect who is partial to trees, animals, games, the earth, and memorable, impactful experiences. Are you one of the humans we’re looking for?  If so, you believe in the power of technology to solve problems and to make the world a better place.

ABOUT CARBON COUNTS (THE COMPANY)
Carbon Counts is an early stage, multi-country, for-profit company on a bold mission to re-green the earth. We believe in the power of people, play, community, and innovation and we are creating memorable, delightful experiences that will have a positive impact on the planet.

ABOUT YOU (AS A HUMAN)
You consider yourself strong as an individual and in dynamic team settings. An exceptional communicator, you love to solve problems. While you may have your head in data pipelines much of the time, you also have a bold vision for how you can help build a better world. You don’t have an ego, but you are confident in your particular gift for making sense of data, and you fully appreciate diversity of thinking and believe that others have different, equally important areas of genius.

ABOUT YOU (AS A Data Engineer)
You are an exceptional data engineer and architect who is obsessed with customer experience and success. You have an entrepreneurial spirit and welcome a fast-paced startup environment. You are adept at working with software developers as well as creative, marketing, and business people. You thrive on translating business and creative requirements into data flows and dashboards, and are equally comfortable discussing user "funnel" progression, KPIs, and SQL/NOSQL data warehouses.

Professional requirements:
  • 5+ years experience managing data warehouses, building ETL pipelines and integrating BI systems
  • 1+ years experience leading data analysts and other engineers
  • Experience with launching games and supporting LiveOps
  • In-depth understanding of cloud datastores
  • Scripting and coding expertise to integrate different systems

Considered a plus to have:
  • Expertise in security and access controls
  • Understanding of full stack software development and DevOps
  • Familiarity with PlayFab or Firebase
  • Knowledge of data science and machine learning techniques
  • Working in Agile, Kanban, or similar project management methodologies

ABOUT THE JOB
You are joining an exceptionally talented team that is getting ready to launch their flagship game. You will be responsible for defining and building the data architecture from the ground up that will support the growth and business of the company for years to come. Working closely with game developers (frontend and backend), you will implement the data systems and pipelines. You will set up the initial data analysis dashboards to monitor player metrics/KPIs, and work on LiveOps systems to dynamically optimize the player experience. You will regularly present data-driven analysis to senior leadership. As the game launches, you will build and lead the Data Engineering and Analysis team.

ABOUT THE CARBON COUNTS TEAM
Biodiversity is the word for the varied animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, and other life forms that are connected and intertwined within an ecosystem. The more biodiversity, the stronger the ecosystem. We’re obsessed with the idea of biodiversity—for the planet, and for the team! Currently, we’re a small, mighty team with different, varied roots in different realms. Some of us have come from entertainment (think Disney). Some from game dev (think Adventure Capitalist, EA, Kabam, Activision, and Club Penguin). Some from business (think tech start-ups and Lululemon). Some from tech (think Google). Some are in conservation (think Rare.org). All of us are inspired by the possibility of changing the world, one moment, one laugh, one step, one community—one tree at a time. We know our players will come from all walks of life—and so do we. We’re hiring exceptional people from a wide variety of backgrounds—it’s the right thing to do and it makes Carbon Counts stronger. If you share our values and love for trees, animals, and nature, please consider applying!
