Do you want to take part in creating the game of a lifetime?
At Mainframe, we are building Pax Dei: a social sandbox MMO, a living world where myths are real, ghosts exist, and magic is unquestioned. A world that players worldwide will call their home and where they will craft their stories for years to come.

Your mission:
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to be an essential part of the game development team.
You will be one of the stakeholders in the character team, working closely with other disciplines (animation, rigging, design…) to deliver high quality character models. You would be involved in the creation of characters and creatures, from concept to finished and moving in game.

Your responsibilities:
  • Anything Character: concepts, sculpts, models, organic, textures, lookdev, topology, textures, materials, anatomy, hard surface, animals, costumes, weapons...
  • You will collaborate with the art and design leads to keep up the standards and vision for the game’s characters and creatures.
  • You will work with the tech artists and programming team to maintain and implement a range of character assets.
  • You will collaborate and communicate with other Mainframe teams and external vendors when needed.
  • You will help keep the production schedule for the characters and creatures and look to maintain the quality throughout the production cycle and timely delivery of assets.
  • You will ensure that the character assets follow our vision, specifications, quality bars and are functioning in the game as intended.
Some success indicators for your role:
  • You have passion for games, ideally RPGs and MMOs.
  • You have an even stronger passion for character art.
  • You have good communication skills and you feel comfortable working with multiple stakeholders, understanding their needs as well as communicating your solutions.
  • You have experience and knowledge of organic and hard surface modeling techniques, producing high quality topology and UVs with good use of textures & shaders.
  • You have a good understanding of rigging and animation needs as well as understanding of current and new character creation techniques and technologies and a desire to push quality while maintaining technical performance.
  • You have a solid eye for human anatomy, materials, silhouettes and the readability of the characters.
  • You have skills in multiple industry standard 3D and 2D software like Zbrush, Maya, Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, Photoshop, etc. and can juggle with them blindfolded.
  • You have strong knowledge of industry standard pipelines and workflows, asset exporting process and implementation within the game.
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine is a great plus.

What is in it for you:
You’ll have the opportunity to work with a team of experienced developers ready to share their knowledge and learn from each other.
You will join in on exciting times as our MMO starts to breathe life! During Pax Dei Early Access - planned for Spring 2024 - we are also learning from our players and developing new features. Our team members are ambitious, approachable, kind, caring, and always ready to improve our ways of working together to bring life to Pax Dei and make our community’s satisfaction our priority. We are a small team working on a challenging project, and, for us, every team member counts; as such, we value transparency in our communication and decision-making processes.

Location and work:
For practical reasons this position is based in Malmö, Sweden. We will strongly encourage Malmö based talents to apply!
