About Us
We are a close-knit and creative indie game studio working on a new game after the launch of our debut title: The House of Hikmah. Our next project is a 3D atmospheric exploration game with a tight, focused core loop led by mood and discovery. We're keeping the specifics under wraps for now, but if you are a nimble, independently-motivated Unreal developer with strong technical abilities, read on!

The Role
We're looking for a versatile, generalist Unreal Engine Programmer with shipped indie titles. You must be a team player with excellent communication skills. You will divide the code workload with our Lead Programmer, whose focus will be on systems. You will work closely with our Lead Designer to rapidly prototype and iterate on gameplay mechanics, then carry them to final polish. In addition, you will be the owner of UI programming tasks.

Responsibilities 
  • Gameplay Programming 
    • Implement or complete gameplay features using best practices according to Design briefs, meetings, and/or direct feedback from the Design team
    • Deliver on Design requests to facilitate experimentation and prove out ideas quickly and effectively, leveraging existing code or plugins as needed
    • Refactor the “quick and dirty” implementation into flexible and reliable features 
  • UI programming
    • Work closely with Design and Art to bring UI vision to life. Inventory, minigames, upgrades etc. are key to this project
    • Menus, including Settings, Save, Load
    • Tutorials
    • Narrative and Localization tasks: importing and displaying narrative elements such as dialogue. Leverage tools from prior title to create an efficient localization pipeline
  • Attending relevant meetings
  • Bug fixing
  • Tracking tasks and bugs in Notion
  • Generating and maintain clear documentation in Notion
  • Communicating on timelines and balancing priorities with production and fellow programmer
  • Along with fellow programmer, supporting on technical issues to unblock teammates

Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in indie studios
  • Programmer role on shipped 3rd person Unreal engine titles
  • Proven ability to deliver flexible gameplay systems
  • Flexible and adaptable to the changing realities of an active development environment
  • Unreal Engine 5 expertise: C++, Blueprints
  • Proficiency with Perforce, UGS, Visual Studio 

Bonus
  • Worked with Unreal version 5.8
  • Familiarity with Articy or similar narrative tools
  • Experience implementing and refining 3Cs (Character, Camera, Controls) for responsive, high quality game feel
  • Knowledge of IK
  • Experience with Notion
  • Experience with Unreal engine source code

Details
  • Beginning ASAP
  • Remote work with team distributed between US West Coast and Middle East. Will work most closely with team members on North America East Coast.
