About the Role:
We are a disruptive educational gaming startup developing RPG and adventure 3D games for children aged 7 to 12, leveraging a scientific approach to enhance cognitive skills.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Game designer with 6+ years of experience in developing 3D games/ open environment/ multiplayer and other genre on the Unity game engine.
This position requires an expert candidate to oversee and manage the full process of game development, ensuring all necessary design details are gathered and implemented in the game, tested to bring a complete game to market.
The ideal candidate must have a deep understanding of designing adventure 3D world for young audiences (ages 7-12) and have the ability to seamlessly incorporate creative ideas to enhance gameplay mechanics, while adapting learning experiences in fun engaging way for children, and able to create smarter NPCs.
The selected candidates must understand also proper game design documentation, methodology of and process of making a game, can build feature documents for game developers to follow, be able to use Unity’s game engine with excellent range of capabilities to build levels and implements game play activities, and able to target the unique needs of school children game design.
Role Overview:
The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of Software Architecture & game Design Patterns principles to drive our scientifically driven approach, developed by our design and business teams.
In addition, the role demands attention to details, high organizational skills and effective communication with cross-functional teams to align technical execution with business objectives, shaping the technical direction of projects to meet strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce game design document that includes all needed elements like story, Design, gameplay systems, mechanics, characters. act
- Create interactive 3D worlds using Unity engine that align with the creative direction of the project.
- Able to innovative storylines, quests, and game play suitable for school children's players while incorporating educational elements in the game.
- Produce Prototype and iterate on gameplay concepts based on feedback and playtesting.
- Collaborate with UI/UX designers to build intuitive interfaces for children-focused games.
- Ensure easy navigation and accessibility within the game environment for younger audiences.
- Optimize user experiences for various platforms (Mobile, PC, Console, AR/VR).
- Work closely with artists, developers, and product managers to ensure cohesive design outcomes.
- Communicate design concepts clearly through wireframes, mockups, and flowcharts.
- Provide detailed design documentation, including diagrams and specifications.
- Conduct playtesting sessions, gather feedback, and refine gameplay elements.
- Optimize levels and mechanics for performance and usability.
- Address design bottlenecks to improve player experience and engagement.
- Lead creative brainstorming sessions and contribute to the direction of the project.
- Create and maintain design documentation using tools such as Lucidchart, Visio, or Draw.io.
- Utilize Unity’s features (Prefab system, Timeline, Animation tools) to craft immersive experiences.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience and knowledge about a variety of children's games is a must.
- Proficiency in Unity with extensive experience using its design tools is a must.
- Strong experience in 3D design, RPG game mechanics, and user interaction principles.
- Familiarity with Unity UI and animation systems.
- In-depth understanding of game mechanics, particularly for children’s games, with a focus on engagement and value.
- Expertise in designing balanced game systems, rewarding gameplay loops, and story-driven experiences.
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Game Design, Interactive Media, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in game design, particularly in 3D and RPG genres, with a focus on children’s games.
- Knowledge and interest in AI games.
