We’re hiring and looking to connect with an Audio / SFX Engineer!
Edge of the World Studios is looking to connect with an Audio /SFX Engineer to help shape the soundscape of Halima, a 2.5D narrative puzzle-platforming adventure currently in development. This role will support the game’s audio needs across sound effects, Foley, dialogue, ambience, small musical cues, and in-engine implementation. This is not the main composer role for the soundtrack, as we will be working separately with a composer for the game’s score. Instead, the Audio Engineer will be the primary source of engineering support for most in-game audio needs.
The Project
Halima is a 2.5D narrative puzzle-platformer inspired by folklore, mythology, and surreal dreamscapes. The game draws inspiration from claymation and stop-motion film, aiming to achieve a handcrafted, tactile feel. We’re looking for someone who can help bring an audio depth that supports that same sense of texture, atmosphere, intimacy, and surrealism, as we believe the soundscape of our game is as important as the art direction.
What you’ll be working on
We’re looking to connect with Audio Engineers who can:
- Create, edit, and implement sound effects for gameplay, traversal, puzzle interactions, UI, and environmental moments.
- Record, design, or source Foley that supports the game’s tactile, handcrafted feel.
- Support dialogue cleanup, editing, processing, and implementation.
- Create ambient audio layers and environmental soundscapes that support mood, location, and narrative tone.
- Develop small musical cues, stingers, and transitional audio moments where needed.
- Work with the Design and Tech teams to ensure audio supports gameplay readability, pacing, and emotional intent.
- Support audio mixing, balancing, and iteration across gameplay scenes.
- Maintain clear organization of audio assets, naming conventions, and implementation workflows.
- Collaborate with the composer where needed to ensure in-game audio and soundtrack direction remain aligned.
We’d love to hear from you if you
- Have experience creating and implementing audio for games.
- Have strong sound design, Foley, and audio editing skills.
- Understand how audio supports gameplay feedback, atmosphere, and player readability.
- Have experience working in Unity.
- Are comfortable owning audio tasks from concept through implementation.
- Have shipped a game or worked on a vertical slice / production milestone.
Nice to Have
- Experience with 2.5D games, puzzle-platformers, or narrative games.
- Experience creating small musical cues, stingers, or adaptive audio moments.
- Familiarity with audio middleware such as FMOD or Wwise.
- Understanding of Unity audio optimization and runtime performance considerations.
If this sounds interesting, or if you know someone who might be a good fit, we’d love to connect and share more about the project and the team.
