Overview
We are looking for a creative and resourceful Sound Designer with experience finding, creating, and integrating sounds in Unity, and the organizational and leadership skills to coordinate the music and voiceover work.  We need a logical and systemic thinker with an iterative approach to development, a collaborative spirit, excellent communication skills, and an enthusiasm for RPG and action-adventure videogames.  The ideal candidate enjoys working with talented engineers, designers, writers, artists, and management, with a drive to create a fun and engaging gameplay experience, able to empathize with both new players and with experts of the genre.

The ideal candidate communicates effectively in a small cross-functional team environment, clearly presenting their ideas to stakeholders for signoff.  They should bring a passion for working within an iterative development environment, bringing a collaborative spirit and an enthusiasm for videogames.

This is a remote contractor position which requires regular collaboration online during Seattle-time work hours, attending relevant team meetings (e.g. daily scrum, retrospectives, sprint planning, and various design meetings).  Occasional calls during late evenings, nights, and early mornings should be expected for international meetings with outside contributors.  As a professional contractor, the candidate should bring the tools necessary for the job, including required sound design software such as Pro Tools.

Quests
  • Find and create SFX for the Game, including vehicles, weapons, explosions, collisions, and ambience.
  • Effectively organize and manage audio assets, including establishing asset naming conventions.
  • Integrate sounds, music, and voiceovers into the Game within Unity.
  • Ensure that the game's audio supports mechanics and provides useful player feedback.
  • Direct musical composition, performance, and recording in collaboration with the Creative Director.
  • Direct the voiceover work in collaboration with the Creative Director, including participation in the selection of voiceover talent and in the recording process.
  • Gather and apply feedback from the Development Team as it applied to the role.
  • Educate and explain sound design concerns to the rest of the team.
  • Troubleshoot and fix sound bugs.
  • Effectively communicate to Engineering details of needed design tools.
  • Maintain outstanding UX quality throughout the game's design and implementation. 
  • Actively collaborate with the development team, openly communicating on progress and problems, helping us set realistic project timelines and expectations.
  • Participate in internal game testing and feedback.
  • Balance and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, working within agreed timeframes and budgets.

Character Stats
  • 5+ years of experience as a professional Sound Designer through the full lifecycle of game development from start to finish:
    concept, design, prototyping, programming, content creation, testing, optimization, launch, support.
  • Strong sound design skills and experience.
  • Excellent understanding of game audio aesthetics.
  • Expert at implementing sound and music within Unity.
  • Understands music theory and practice.
  • Experienced addressing internationalization and localization concerns as they relate to audio.
  • Passionate for creating an engaging SFX experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, resourceful, able to find solutions when needed.
  • An enthusiasm for quality gameplay and a familiarity with many games and genres, past and present.
  • Strong self-discipline, motivated, a self-starter with a drive for excellence.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, able to work fast and loose or carefully with quality as each is needed.
  • Courteous and patient, able to give and receive constructive and inspirational feedback gracefully.
  • Able to work effectively with people having a variety of personalities and backgrounds.
  • Adaptable: The job can change according to the needs at hand and requires wearing various hats.
  • Able to work remotely using various collaboration tools.
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in sound tools such as Pro Tools, Soundforge, FMOD, and Master Audio
  • Proficient in business productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Proficient in project tools such as Atlassian Jira and Confluence.
  • Passionate to learn new tools and technologies.

Bonus Points
  • Experience as a musician is a plus.
  • Experience as a voiceover actor is a plus.
