Unannounced Project | Lunacy Studios | Remote | Full-time
About Us We are a close-knit and creative indie game studio working on a new game after the launch of our debut title:
The House of Hikmah. Our next project is a
3D atmospheric exploration game with a tight, focused core loop led by mood and discovery. We're keeping the specifics under wraps for now, but if this sounds like a fit with your design focus and experience, read on!
The Role
We're looking for a versatile Senior Game Designer with shipped indie titles who thinks in systems and proves ideas through gameplay. You must be a team player with excellent communication skills and strong technical abilities. You'll own mechanics from early prototypes through to shipped, polished features, working closely with programming, art, narrative, and creative direction to make sure every aspect serves a compelling player fantasy.
Responsibilities
- Help define and shape the experiential goals of the game
- Design, build playable prototypes in Unreal Engine 5 (Blueprints), and iterate on core gameplay systems and the moment-to-moment loop
- Author clear design documentation that the whole team can build from, and keep it up to date
- Collaborate closely with the Creative Director and the rest of the team to integrate systems cohesively into the world
- Take responsibility for scope and feasibility of features in collaboration with production
- Attend team meetings and lead design-centric sessions
- Effectively assess and action player feedback
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional game design experience, with at least two shipped titles (preferably indie and/or lead role owning major systems)
- Strong rapid-prototyping skills
- Hands-on Unreal Engine 5 ability, including comfort working in Blueprints
- Demonstrated systems design ability: core loops, progression, economy/resource management, and game feel
- Experience designing for exploration and atmosphere led games: building tension through constraint rather than combat
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to document and pitch ideas clearly
- Proven player-centric design philosophy
- Familiarity with Perforce and remote workflows
Bonus
- Level design experience
- Shipped titles in exploration and survival genres
- Light scripting or technical design background beyond Blueprints
- Knowledge of features in latest Unreal Engine versions (5.7 and 5.8)
Details
- Full-time, remote position
- Work with a team distributed between UTC-7 and UTC+3
