Contract Artist (2D/3D Generalist)
Contract, Half to Full-time, Remote, 4-6 months
Job Description:
We are looking for a half to full-time Contract Artist (2D/3D Generalist) for a remote position aimed at exploring new studio relationships and positions. The ideal candidate is experienced at defining styles for a variety of different types of projects with a focus on games.
It is necessary for the candidate to be an exceptionally self-motivated individual that is used to working with a team to consistently deliver milestones on time and on schedule. Any applicant should be experienced with 2D and 3D art/animation and should have solid experience working in game engines such as Unity or Game Maker.
Weathered Sweater is a new Black-owned interactive media and art studio located in Winooski, Vermont.
This position may be expanded into a larger role at the end of the contract.

Timeline: August 2020 - December 2020 (4-6 months)
Compensation: Negotiable and based on experience. ~$20-30 USD/hr
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Defining art styles for a mix of internal and external projects
- Creating complete concepts for locations, characters, and UI
- Creating in-game assets including, but not limited to, 2D illustrations/sprites, 3D models, rigs, and 2D/3D animations as needed for each project
- Keeping project management boards and documents up-to-date (Trello, Clickup, Google Docs, etc)
- Work as part of a team to consistently meet deadlines, produce documentation, and pitch against challenge criteria
Requirements and Experience:
- Great fundamental/foundation art knowledge (anatomy, composition, value, lighting, etc)
- Real good 2D art and animation skills (including pixel art)
- Strong 3D art and animation skills
- Experience with (or proven desire to learn) Shader Graph or equivalent node-based shader editor in Unity
- Strong file organizational skills and habits
- Basic to intermediate understanding of Git and Source Control
- (Ideal candidate has)
- Shipped games where they provided the majority of the art
- Experience working with small teams and picking up additional game dev tasks as necessary
- Worked in other development tools that aren’t Unity
- Has hobbies that aren’t just gaming-related (you can draw from experiences that aren’t just other games)
